Stained glass flowers are one of our favorite ways to bring a little piece of nature into the home. At Avalglass, we make them as suncatchers, bookends, tabletops, and hanging panels — all handmade from real stained glass.

And, of course, there is one very nice thing about them.

You never have to water them.

I have always loved flowers

Me and one of the first panels I made. It was inspired by the daffodils from my garden.

Maybe it is a woman thing, but I don't think we ever really get tired of flowers.

We put them on the kitchen table. We bring them home from the garden. We buy ourselves a little bouquet after a long week because, well, why not?

And then we watch them slowly disappear.

When I started working with stained glass, flowers naturally became one of the things I wanted to make.

There is something special about taking a flower that lasts for a few days and turning it into something that can stay in your home for years.

A stained glass flower doesn't try to replace a real flower. It simply gives you another way to enjoy one.

One thing I love about working with flowers in stained glass is that they don't have to stay in one place.

You can hang one in the window where the morning sun can find it.

You can put another next to your favorite books.

A larger piece can sit on a console or table and become part of the room.

Or you can hang a floral panel somewhere that needs a little more personality.

That is why our flower collection has grown into several different forms.

Blue orchid flower suncatcher is one of the newer additions to the collection.

This is probably the most natural home for a stained glass flower.

Hang it by a window and let the sunlight do the rest.

The glass catches the light throughout the day, so the flower can look slightly different in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

I especially love this for bedrooms and kitchens. These are the places where we spend so much of our everyday life, and sometimes one small detail can make the room feel more like our own.

And if you are looking for a gift, a flower suncatcher is a lovely choice. You don't need to know the exact size of someone's table or whether they have room for another vase.

Now, flowers can also hold your books together.

This is one of those ideas that makes me wonder why we didn't do it sooner.

Our stained glass bookends combine handmade glass with oak bases, so they are useful enough to hold your books but pretty enough to become part of the decoration.

Some of my favorite designs are the Sunflower, Gerbera, and Ginkgo Leaf.

The Sunflower is warm and cheerful. The Ginkgo is a little more delicate and natural. And the Gerbera has that lovely, full flower shape that makes it impossible to miss.

You can choose light or dark oak, and you can even buy the bookends one side at a time.

And here is my favorite part: if you already have one of our wooden bases, you can buy the stained glass separately.

So you can change your flower without replacing the whole bookend.

I know how dangerous this sounds for collectors.

“Just one more flower” is how these things usually begin.

Some flowers deserve a little more space.

Our stained glass tabletops are made to stand on their own, with handmade oak bases that give the glass a warm, natural frame.

They can sit on a coffee table, console, shelf, desk, or bedside table.

I love these when someone wants a piece of stained glass but doesn't necessarily want to hang something on the wall.

You simply put it where you like it.

And then, eventually, you will probably move it somewhere else because you realize it looks even better there.

And then there are the flowers that want to be noticed.

This is where I think stained glass becomes especially magical.

The flower is still there, but the light becomes part of it too.

There is a reason floral gifts have been popular for generations.

Giving someone a flower says something without needing many words.

“I thought of you.”

“I wanted to make you happy.”

But sometimes you want that feeling to last longer than a week.

For a birthday. A housewarming. Mother's Day. An anniversary. A wedding.

Or simply because you know someone who loves flowers.

This is another thing we have noticed over the years.

Someone buys one flower.

Then they see another.

Then they realize that the new one would look perfect next to the first one.

And suddenly there is a little collection growing on the bookshelf.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Stained glass is particularly nice for collecting because every design can have its own personality. You can collect your favorite flowers, stay with one color palette, choose pieces for different rooms, or simply pick the ones that make you stop and look twice.

Some of our customers even collect the glass pieces separately and change them on their existing bases.

Your home changes over time.

We have been working with stained glass for more than 22 years, and we still make our pieces by hand.

Every flower begins as individual pieces of glass. They are cut, assembled, soldered, and finished by our artisans in our family workshop in Poland.

There is something comforting about knowing that.

The piece sitting in your window didn't come off an endless production line.

Someone actually made it.

Someone held those pieces of glass in their hands and decided how they should come together.

That is what makes handmade decoration feel different.

And hopefully, it is also what makes you want to keep it.

which flower will you choose?

Maybe it will be a flower hanging in your window.

Maybe it will be holding your favorite books together.

Maybe it will sit on your coffee table and become the little thing everyone asks about when they visit.

Or maybe you will give it to someone you love.

However you choose to bring one home, we hope it stays with you for a long time.

Because real flowers are wonderful.
